Kosher food is food prepared in adherence with a set of dietary laws associated with Judaism. Whether or not a certain food is considered “kosher” depends on what it is and how it is prepared. At The Immersion Program we have a dedicated chef on staff who has attained a thorough education on and cultural understanding of Judaism and kosher food. Our chef has a detailed comprehension of kosher requirements and regulations, and works directly with our clients to plan and prepare meals. At The Immersion Program, we honor and accommodate all cultural and religious practices and guidelines, ensuring our clients have access to the services and resources they need to recover comfortably.
There are several unique benefits associated with our Kosher Recovery Program. To learn more about the provided services, contact our Jewish Community Liaison directly.
Not only do clients plan their meals with our experienced and knowledgeable chef, Eric Cone, but they are driven to and from a local kosher supermarket on a weekly basis where they are encouraged to do their own shopping. Eric sits down with each client individually, going over the kosher menu and ensuring all nutritional needs are being met.
Our kitchen was specially designed to adhere to kosher standards. We have a designated kitchen, and kosher food services are available to clients in all levels of clinical care — medical detox, partial hospitalization, and inpatient treatment.
Spirituality serves as a cornerstone of addiction recovery, regardless of personal background. At The Immersion Program we are committed to providing clients with a safe and supportive environment in which they can engage in any pre-existing religious practices while continuing to explore and expand upon their spiritual connection. We are also dedicated to ensuring Immersion provides a safe space for people of all cultural backgrounds. We ensure one of our licensed, on-staff therapists is deeply attuned to Jewish culture, and has a thorough understanding of the unique experiences of clients from this specific background.
All staff members are trained in the guidelines surrounding certain religious holidays and observances, including Shabbos.
Any requests clients have to go to Shul on shabbos or yomtov as well as going to the Rabbis house for meals is decided by the clinical team if and when appropriate.
Suddurim, machzorim and a Jewish calendar are kept in the facility and given to clients at their request.
Any items pertaining to a Jewish holiday (Menorah for Chanukah, Lulav and Esrog for Succos, Seder plate for Pesach etc) is provided for any client wishing to practice during the holiday.
During PHP level of care, men and woman from the Jewish sober community volunteer to take clients to the Rabbi for meals or to AA meetings.
The Immersion Program works with a local rabbi and Shul in the community who has made himself available to visit clients at their request as well as deliver food for any shabbos and yomtov meals.

Leah Abate, The Immersion Program’s Jewish Community Liaison, was born and raised in the Jewish community in Los Angeles, California. She got sober at The Immersion Program in May 2019 and currently resides with her family in Boca Raton, Florida. She devotes her time now to helping others get the help they need for substance abuse and mental health treatment. When entering her role with Guardian Recovery Network she realized the people in her community needed a safe place to have their religious needs met during their time in treatment with us. The Kosher Recovery Program was put in place and all cultural and religious needs of Jewish clients are now met while at The Immersion Program.
